Applied and Forensic Science BTEC Extended Diploma (Yr1 90 credit) at Hertford Regional College

Course description

This course includes practical and applied theory work.  You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you will develop the skills you need to start a career in the field of Science. You can choose from pathways in Medical, Lab and Industrial Forensic Science, in addition to the core units. On successful completion of the two year course, you can go on to study at degree level or go directly into employment.

Entry requirements

  • You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs A* - C including Maths, English and Science


  • A BTEC First Diploma in Science at Merit Grade or above plus 4 other GCSEs at A* - C including Maths and English

Financial information

Free to those under 19 on 31st August 2016. If you are 19 or over on 31st August 2016, have been a permanent resident in the EU for the last three years, and are a fee paying new entrant you will pay £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). However, fee paying students continuing on the same course for a second year will be charged £1500 tuition fee (this was the fee for 2015/16 and could be subject to change for 2016/17). You will be required to pay an administration fee, exam fees, kit fee, materials fee and an Awarding Body Registration fee if applicable. For these costs please contact our Information Centre.

      Additional buses run to the College including:

      C2/C3 from Harlow                       approx 30 minutes
      310/311 from Waltham Cross      approx 17 minutes
      310/311 from Hertford                  approx 40 minutes

      Trains: The National Express East Anglia Service provides services from Broxbourne and Cheshunt stations to London Liverpool Street, Tottenham Hale, Waltham Cross, Enfield Lock, Harlow, Sawbridgeworth, Bishop’s Stortford and Stansted. 

      Example journey times:
      London Liverpool Street – Cheshunt – 20 minutes
      Stansted Mountfitchet – Broxbourne – 24 minutes

      Parking: There are limited car parking spaces on site.
