Vehicle Maintenance and Repair - Heavy Vehicle Level 2 - IMIAL Level 2 Diploma at Exeter College

Course description

This IMIAL Level 2 Diploma is designed to provide a complete set of skills for work in the heavy vehicle automotive industry. It can also help to fast track students into an Advanced Apprenticeship. An ability to work independently is an essential part of this course.

Course content

The course is delivered through a number of units covering:

  • Automotive support for job roles
  • Automotive health and safety
  • Automotive tools and materials
  • Heavy vehicle engine systems
  • Heavy vehicle transmission systems
  • Heavy vehicle electrical systems
  • Heavy vehicle chassis systems
  • Heavy vehicle maintenance
  • Heavy vehicle inspection

Entry requirements

Entry is through an interview where you demonstrate a keen interest in working in the Heavy Vehicle Industry. You should have a minimum of four good GCSEs at Grade C or above in Mathematics, English and Science based subjects. Academic qualifications such as a level 1 qualification in Automotive Studies or vocational experience such as work experience may also be considered. 

 

Assessment

Assessment is made up of three components – IMI Practical Assessments, Centre Devised Assessment Methods and IMI External Testing and Written Assignments.

Financial information

You will be required to have boots, overalls and Polo shirts which are ordered through our supplier. You will also have to pay £50 to cover faculty materials.

Future opportunities

This course will help you find a job within the automotive industry. The Level 2 programme gives an excellent opportunity to progress onto an apprenticeship or to the Level 3 Diploma.
