Warehousing and Storage Apprenticeship at SHL Training Solutions LTD

Course description

Apprenticeships give a mix of on the job and classroom based learning. Learners will help to create a plan which they will work through with their employer and assessor from SHL Training Solutions. What and how learners study will vary from day to day.

Course content

This Apprenticeship deals with the movement and storage of goods, and is an essential part of logistics operations. Learner's duties will depend on the employer, but it could be managing stock, receiving goods, despatching goods the storage of goods or processing returned goods.

Your job role is likely to include:

  • Picking goods in a logistics operation
  • Placing goods in storage
  • Assembling orders for dispatch
  • Wrapping and packing goods
  • Processing orders for customers
  • Maintaining equipment
  • Receiving, moving and handling goods
  • Using equipment to move goods
  • Keeping stock at the required level
  • Processing returned goods
  • Contributing to the provision of customer care


A Warehousing and Storage Apprenticeship is made up from 3 core elements:

  • Technical Certificate
  • NVQ
  • Functional Skills

The Technical Certificate gives the student the underpinning knowledge needed to carry out the tasks included in their NVQ.

The NVQ portfolio is made up of observations from the assessor, key reports from supervisors and direct from the candidate, it records their activities and experiences. The portfolio is assessed to make sure the student is competent. Their work will be assessed at their place of work.

Functional Skills are similar to Maths and English GCSEs however; learning is focused around their warehousing duties.
For example, students may be asked to analyse data regarding stock levels.
