English Literature AS A Level at Saint Mary's College, Blackburn

Course description

From poetry to drama and prose, the English Literature course encompasses a wide range of styles and genres, authors and poets. You will have the opportunity to study some of the literary greats and emerging talents whilst perfecting your analytical skills. The writers’ techniques will be considered, exploring the development of characters and themes, as you deepen your understanding of writers and their times. By choosing the English Literature course you will be able to consider texts that you may never have previously encountered, whilst an element of free choice within the coursework ensures that you can personalise the course and make it relevant to your own interests. The course covers a wide range of literature, from 16th century Shakespeare, to 20th century F. Scott Fitzgerald. Whether you enjoy classic or more contemporary literature, there is something for you on the English Literature course. Reading for inspiration, knowledge and for enjoyment is just the beginning in appreciating the written word! This course can be taken in conjunction with the English Language A Level, but not with the English Language and Literature A Level.
