MEDIA STUDIES at Steyning Grammar School

Course description

AS Unit 1 Media Representations and Responses
Analysis of a wide range of media texts from a variety of forms (television, film, advertising, magazines, web-sites, games, newspapers). Exploration of how these texts are constructed, how they represent different groups and how audiences use them.

AS Unit 2 Media Production Processes
A pre-production and production quality piece of media work, plus an accompanying report on the production process. This is your chance to show you can plan and create media texts of your own.

A2 Unit 3 Media Investigation and Production
A research based investigation into an aspect of the media (e.g. ‘Representation of teenagers in soap operas’), a media production and an evaluation linking production and research.

A2 Unit 4 Media - Test, Industry and Audience
Study of three media industries, with close focus on three texts from each of the industries.

Entry requirements

For AS year ONE, 5 GCSE grade C or above, including English and Literature. B's in English preferred. For A2 year TWO, Grade E or above in AS Media Studies.
