English Literature AS Level (WJEC) at Ryburn Valley High School

Course description

It is an ideal course for those of you who love reading, reading and reading! Do you take an active interest in people, their lives, intrigues and actions? Do you like discussing what you have read with others? Are you interested in poetry, drama and prose? Can you write clearly about your views on what you have read? If you have answered YES to all these questions, then ‘A’ Level English Literature is for you!What will I be studying in English Literature?In the first year, at A/S Level, you will study 3 units: Shakespeare, Coursework and 20th Century poetry/ Pre-1900 Prose.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in English Literature, which could lead onto higher education in English related studies or more general higher education courses.With further training, you could go into a job related to English Literature such as a Teacher, Journalist, Author or Poet. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
