Sport BTEC Level 3 at Abbeyfield School

Course description

- It is the equivalent of 2 A levels
- It is a practical, work-related course; you learn by completing projects & assignments that are based on realistic situations /activities

Course content

The course is made up of 13 units: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Physiology of fitness, Assessing Risk in Sport, Fitness training and Programming, Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Fitness testing for Sport and Exercise, Practical Team Sport, Practical Individual Sport, Leadership in Sport, Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise, Analysis of Sports Performance, Rules Regulations and Officiating

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at grades A-C


All units are assessed & graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded

Future opportunities

- BTEC National Diplomas are valued by employers and Higher Education bodies
- If you want to get a job straight away you could work in Sports/Leisure Centres or Outdoor Activity Centres
- If you decide to go on to university or college & have other qualifications you could take a degree or a BTEC Higher National in Sports Studies, Leisure Management, Recreation Management or Teacher Training
