Site Carpentry Diploma Level 2 at PETROC

Course description

The Level 2 Site Carpentry study programme helps candidates learn and develop the skills needed to practise carpentry on a construction site.

Course content

You will study a range of units which include the following: Health and Safety, Knowledge of Information, Building Methods and Technology at Level 2. You will also study the main Site Carpentry units which include: First and Second Fix, Carcassing, Carpentry Maintenance and Use of Circular Saws. All units are covered in theory and practical sessions. 

You will undertake practical assessments to make sure you¿ve acquired the high skill levels you¿ll need in the industry.

Your study programme will include tutorial sessions and work experience. You will also study Maths and English if a GCSE at grade C or above has not previously been achieved in these subjects.

Entry requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade D or above, or equivalent, ideally to include a grade C in Maths and English. You must have successfully completed a Level 1 qualification in Carpentry & Joinery.


There will be a set of tests on our Virtual Learning Environment for each unit and a final synoptic practical assignment.

Financial information

Is there any equipment needed to participate on this course?
Safety clothing including boots and overalls need to be purchased by the student. Students are also required to provide their own stationery and textbooks, a full equipment list will be provided at interview.

Are there any costs for this course?
Students are asked to pay a contribution towards materials and learning resources used in workshops and classrooms.  Financial support may be available, if you require further information contact the guidance centre on 01884 235330

Future opportunities

With this qualification under your belt, you can advance to an apprenticeship. You could also undertake a Level 3 Diploma in Architecture and Surveying or progress to Higher Education on our HNC in Construction.

Further information

Theory sessions will be taught in fully equipped classrooms with smart boards and other teaching and learning devices. Workshops will be used to deliver the practical training.
