Philosophy at Andover College

Course description

Students will gain a thorough grounding in key philosophical concepts, themes, texts and techniques. They will join great thinkers of the ages in the pursuit of questions that delve into the nature and purpose of existence. Students will have at their disposal a well-stocked library, Moodle classroom and regular scheduled lesson time in computer suites for online research. The lecturer holds a degree in philosophy, and is an experienced and enthusiastic subject specialist.

Successful students will have a natural curiosity about the human condition: the world of consciousness that we inhabit - our beliefs, values and limitations; the challenge presented by others. They will enjoy the stretch of wrestling with and discussing questions that have captivated us for centuries and informed the growth of knowledge. Philosophy is a traditional, rigorous academic pursuit that complements many other subjects and is well received by universities. Students will develop very attractive academic traits. Study trips include conferences and workshops at prestigious universities and museums.
