Course description

This course covers the basis of bricklaying including the use of different materials, the use of specialist tools to spread and joint mortar and cutting bricks or blocks to size. Brickwork demands a considerable amount of pre-planning, calculation and precision analysis of building plans. With government spending plans for the next few years focused largely on the construction of new houses and schools, good bricklayers will soon be in great demand meaning that it has the potential to provide an extremely secure career choice.

Entry requirements

You do not need to be employed within the construction industry as no previous knowledge is required. There are no formal entry requirements or qualifications needed. Basic numeracy and literacy skills are advantageous, however additional assistance with these can be accessed where needed and Functional Skills qualifications can be achieved alongside the course. The most essential requirements for this course are a willingness to work hard and the enthusiasm to learn and develop new skills.

Assessment

The course consists of coursework and feedback on practical training tasks. You will also complete multiple choice tests and there will be an external online multiple choice exam at the end of the course.

Successful completion of this qualification will lead to the level 2 diploma and will enhance your career prospects in the construction industry.
