Beauty Therapy - NVQ Level 2/Level 3 at Sir William Ramsay School

Course description

The course is made up of units containing a mixture of practical and theoretical, which combined give, the NVQ 2 & 3 Beauty Therapy Qualifications. The skills you will develop will be varied. They will enable you to develop interpersonal and managerial skills as well as a range of beauty therapy skills outlined below.

  • This is a vocational course aimed at those interested in a career in Beauty Therapy or in complimentary therapies.
  • The Beauty Therapy Department is purpose built and has practical working stations, is equipped with a full range of beauty products and equipment and a working reception area.

Course content

9 units will be completed, consisting of: Manager based units – Health & Safety; Promote Products & Services; Developing Effectiveness at Work.

This will include: Facial treatments, eyelash & eyebrow treatments, waxing, manicure, pedicure, make-up and camouflage make-up.

For the NVQ Level 3 in Beauty Therapy/Massage – Year 13 7 units will be completed, consisting of: Health & Safety Level 3, Planning & Promotional Activities, Body massage treatments, Indian head massage, aromatherapy massage, self-tanning treatments, intimate female waxing and stone therapy treatments.

Work is internally marked and externally verified and students will sit external examinations in years 12 and 13.

Extra-curricular activities

Students will be expected to participate in a workbased placement, in a ‘local’ business or be involved in a community project. As part of the course, students will have the opportunity to visit trade shows and exhibitions and will attend seminars/demonstrations by guest speakers.

Entry requirements

Students embarking on this course are expected to have a minimum of 3 GCSEs graded C or above including English and Science. This course suits students who have good interpersonal skills and who are interested in a career working with the general public.

Future opportunities

The course aids progression to employment or selfemployment and helps access to higher education through foundation, HND or degree courses.
