The course is aimed at those wishing to enter the sport or exercise science based industry. The core modules look to focus and develop theoretical knowledge that underpin key practical skills within the area of sport and exercise science. The course has excellent external links with the local community and learners will have the opportunity to practise classroom taught skills in real sport and exercise settings. As well as developing practical skills the course aims to develop academic ability by improving the ability to research effectively, report findings in a scientific method and think critically.

CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction (Gym Based Exercise) - This qualification is aimed at the learner who wants to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry as a fitness instructor in the context of gym-based exercise

 

ISAK Level 1 (optional) – A three day intensive internationally recognised qualification in which learners will gain a solid understanding of the application of anthropometry, including taught precision in 2 basic measurements, 8 skinfolds, 5 girths and 2 breadths. From this learners will be qualified to measure body fat percentage and somatotype.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths.

Assessment

The course is continuously assessed through assignments, projects and case studies. Students will develop a responsible and co-operative approach to working on their own and in groups. The course uses practical activities, presentations and involvement with local business wherever possible. 

Financial information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free. 
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.

Future opportunities

This course leads to further studies in higher education or employment opportunities such as sports coaching/training and sports development.  There is also an opportunity for students to study additional A level qualifications alongside this award.
