Course description

What will be studied ?

City & Guilds level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing, one year full time vocational course.

Throughout the duration of the course you can expect hands-on learning to ensure you master all the required techniques, as well as theory-based modules to equip you with the knowledge and understanding you will need to succeed in this field.

As well as an introduction to the industry as a whole, you will also be given in depth training in:

Unit 1: Working in the hair industry

Unit 2: Health and Safety

Unit 3: Client consultation

Unit 4: Shampoo and condition hair & scalp

Unit 5: Promote products & services to clients

Unit 6: Cut women’s hair

Unit 7: Colour and lighten hair

Unit 8: Perm and neutralise hair

Unit 9: The art of dressing hair

Unit 12: Create an image based on a theme with in hair and beauty

Unit 16: Salon reception duties

How will I be assessed ?

You will be assessed through a combination of practical observations, assignments, portfolio, and theory-based units and tests.

Who should do this course ?

This course will appeal to learners who have an interest in learning about hairdressing, and who are motivated and enjoy learning.

Hairdressing is a creative and rewarding career - whether you want to join a busy salon, become a freelance hairdresser, trainer, TV hair stylist, stylist on a cruise ship, or even open your own establishment one day - this course will set you on the right path to achieving this.

How is the course delivered ?

The course is taught using a variety of methods including, practical observations, visual aids, presentation and taught sessions.

In addition, there will be opportunities to visit work placements to see a how a professional salon works.

What equipment will I need ?

You will need to be properly equipped with basic stationery.

A tunic and basic hairdressing kit will need to be purchased which will be ordered through the school.

What next ?

The course may lead to employment or progression to:

Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy

Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing

Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs (3 at grades A*-D & 1 at grade A*-E) including English, Maths & Science. Students with previous hairdressing experience will also be considered.
