Fashion and Textiles A Level at Arnold Hill Academy

Course description

Why study this course?

A Level Fashion and Textiles gives you the opportunity to develop your capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. The subject will enable you to take a broad view of Design and Technology and to develop a wide range of skills, including working with others, thinking creatively and making quality products.

What support and enrichment will I get?

Pupils are invited to attend Textiles lunchtime and after school workshops where skills are developed to aid the development of a quality product. Textile exhibitions are visited and trips are planned for fabric fairs in Paris and The Clothes Show where students can understand the textile and fashion industry within a commercial environment. Industrial visits will take place and local designers will visit Arnold Hill to talk about their role within the Industry.

Entry requirements

In addition to the standard entry requirements for the Sixth Form, it is recommended (but not essential) that students have studied GCSE Textiles Technology and, if they have done so, they should have attained a grade C or better.

Future opportunities

Textile Design could take you into a number of exciting career paths. Of course, being a textile designer is a natural outcome but there are other job prospects such as working as an interior designer or in fashion merchandising and buying. The advertising and marketing profession always needs creative people too, as does the manufacturing industry.
