Sport Specialist Qualification at Thorpe St Andrew School and Sixth Form

Course description

The Specialist Qualification in Sport focuses on particular aspects of employment within the sports sector and is equivalent to one A Level. Students should also choose three additional AS subjects alongside this qualification.

Why study a Specialist Qualification in Sport?
This course provides you with the knowledge and skills required in the sports sector, preparing you for further study and training. As the qualification is coursework based it can complement other examination subjects.

Course content

The course consists of seven units and each unit is made up of approximately five assignments. Assignments can be in different formats such as written reports, PowerPoint presentations, discussions, role plays, posters, as well as practical activities such as organising sports tournaments or leading a sports session. Listed below are some of the unit titles studied:

Year 12:
Unit 1: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
Unit 2: The Physiology of Fitness
Unit 3: Assessing Risk in Sport

Year 13:
Unit 4: Fitness Training and Programming
Unit 7: Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
Unit 8: Practical Sport
Unit 15: Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise

Entry requirements

You will need to have at least four GCSEs at Grade C or above.
