Course description

The BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport enables you to develop your understanding of the essential skills and knowledge needed when looking to build a career in sport. The course provides you with training in areas which are essential to the study of sports performance and provides a foundation for starting professional work, or progressing to higher education.

The course can be adapted to meet your talents and aspirations. It consists of three compulsory core units plus one specialist unit, totalling 360 guided learning hours. The structure of the course lets you focus on the areas which will benefit you the most, such as anatomy and physiology, fitness training and programming or sports leadership. Should your grades be of a high enough standard, there is the option to extend the qualification to the Foundation Diploma, accruing an extra half an A Level for three more optional units.

Future opportunities

With the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, you can progress straight into employment. If successful there are a wide variety of prospective careers that you can explore, for example: Athlete, Sports Coach or Health and Fitness Instructor.

The BTEC National Certificate in Sport is the equivalent of one A Level and it is possible for you to progress further into higher education, as successful BTEC National qualifications give UCAS points for university applications.
