Law Level 3 - AS Level/A Level at Exeter College

Course description

This course could be your starting point for a career in law and provides a general introduction to the legal system, law-making and criminal law.

You will be taught in a variety of ways which will include the study of written materials, class and group discussion and practical problem solving using legal problem questions. You will be expected to submit written homework on a regular basis. Independent wide reading is also required. 

Course content

At AS Level you will study:

  • Processes and personnel in the legal system, with a focus on criminal justice
  • Law making and some key legal values such as human rights and morality

At A Level you will study the criminal law of fatal and non-fatal offences with defences as well as issues such as police powers and sentencing.

Entry requirements

You need at least five GCSEs at Grade C including Maths at C or above, and English Language at Grade B.

Assessment

The final assessment for the AS Level award is by two examinations at the end of the first year. The final assessment for the A Level award is by 2 examinations at the end of the second year.

Future opportunities

You could progress onto a range of degree programmes including law degree programmes. Further professional training can lead to qualification as a barrister or solicitor.
