Business Studies A Level at Warrington & Vale Royal College

Course description

Are you interested in how the world of business works? Would you like to run your own company in the future? If so, then this course is for you.

Course content

Business examines the key issues businesses face in the real world, with students learning how to apply business theories and ideas to different contexts. Topics you will study include;

  •  The reasons businesses exist
  • The role of shareholders
  • global and external environments
  • marketing
  • opportunities for entrepreneurs and key management principals.

These are taught through the use of case studies, investigations and practical work.

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement for progression onto an A Level pathway is at least five grade 5s at GCSE, including English.

We would expect students looking to study a business A Level to have a grade 5 or above in maths. It is not required for you to have studied business at GCSE level.

We will look at each application individually and flexibly and will discuss your choice of courses.


This is an academic course following a two year linear A Level, with terminal exams.

Will I complete work placements?

You will have the opportunity to undertake an appropriate work experience or internship. This will give you a real understanding of the world of work or career you are considering and will undoubtedly give you a competitive edge in any application or interviews. This will take place for most students in a block placement in June/July of Year 12.

Are trips and residentials organised during the course?

Trips and/or enrichment activities will take place on a Wednesday each week.

    • By Rail: Anyone travelling by train should disembark at Central Station in Warrington. Our Winwick Road Campus is around a 20 minute walk along the A49 (you will pass the Warrington Wolves RLFC stadium and the Tesco supermarket on your left).

      By Bus: Warrington & Vale Royal College is easily accessible by bus from the town centre and nearby Cheshire districts. Bus numbers* 19, 20, 21, 22 from the Warrington Bus Station to Winwick Road Campus.
