ICT Applied AS/A2 Level at Nottingham Academy

Course description

Are you keen to learn how to use appropriate ICT tools and
techniques to carry out investigations, capture and handle
data, solve problems and plan and manage projects? This ICT
course has a broad appeal and develops your communication
and decision-making skills. These are harnessed to build and
maintain an e-portfolio as a showcase for your achievements.

Course content

In Applied ICT you will be asked to complete coursework for
the majority of the units. You will develop your skills within
industry standard software packages, evaluating the use of
Information Communication Technology in a ‘real-world’
business context. At AS you will create a portfolio of different
communications and a research portfolio. At A2 you will create
your own multimedia product and will study web design.

– Unit 1: Using ICT to Communicate (coursework).
– Unit 2: How Organisations Use ICT (examination).
– Unit 3: ICT Solutions for Individuals and Society
(coursework).

Units covered at A2
– Unit 9: Project Management (coursework).
– Unit 11: Interactive Multimedia Products (coursework).
– Unit 14: Developing and Creating Websites (coursework).

Entry requirements

5+ A*-C grades at GCSE including C grade or above in English.

Assessment

Coursework that is submitted before each task deadline will
be assessed by your teacher and feedback will be given to
allow you to improve your grade. At the end of each academic
year, your coursework will be send to the examination board
who will moderate your final portfolio. There is also an
examination at the end of the AS course.

Future opportunities

The course can lead onto a university degree in any computer
based subject such as computer science or will give you skills
that can be applied in jobs or further study that involve using
computers and managing projects.
