Fashion BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma at Highbury College

Course description

The course is aimed at students who wish to develop a portfolio of work to allow them to progress on to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design (Fashion and Clothing).

The course is delivered entirely by industry professionals allowing the student to develop a broad range of skills within a professional context.

Students are guided through a series of professionally based masterclasses and design challenges that see them researching, designing and making a series of garments of increasing complexity.

Course content

The course consists of a diverse range of skills and techniques that are delivered through an intense timetable of masterclasses, practical demonstrations and student led sessions that allow the student to build a wide range of fashion based practice. All briefs are delivered by industry professionals with lectures delivered by working practioners and designers.

Students will explore research technique and contextual study, methods and techniques for illustration and fashion design, pattern cutting and construction, applied decoration and garment manufacture. Projects delivered during 2014 included Denim, corsetry and Chinese evening wear.

Students attend London exhibitions and Graduate Fashion Week to allow them to consider University progression and take part in fashion shows and Southsea Fashion Week to showcase their work to the public and industry.


You will be assessed in a variety of ways; one to one assessments with your tutors, in group presentations and by your peers.

Assignments are written to allow you to build on previous learning and improve your grades allowing you to demonstrate the variety of skills you have acquired.

Your participation in the end of year fashion show and Southsea Fashion Week will allow you to be assessed on a real life project in a public showcase

Future opportunities

This qualification will allow you to progress on to the second year qualification, the Edexcel Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design (Fashion Design)
