Childcare Intermediate Apprenticeships - Level 2 at John Ruskin College

Course description

The course is for those wishing to learn the skills to work within the childcare industry.

You will attend college one day a week in term time and the remaining time you will be working for your employer. You will also be visited and assessed in the workplace.

Entry requirements

You need 4 GCSEs at grade D or above including Maths and English. You must be employed in a childcare or education setting and will be required to complete a CRB check for your employer.


You will have a dedicated Trainer/Assessor who you can contact at any time. They will visit you in the workplace at least every 8 weeks to carry out a progress review with you and your employer.

Financial information

If you are aged 16 to 18 when you start your Apprenticeship Programme, there is no charge to you or your employer as this is fully funded by the government.

Other costs would include the purchase of text books. You will need an enhanced CRB check done through your employer or the College.

Future opportunities

When you have achieved your Intermediate Apprenticeship framework you may be able to progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3).
