Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship Level 2 at Stratford-upon-Avon College

Course description

Our Level 2 Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle is aimed at learners who want to develop their skills and knowledge the motor vehicle industry. It is aimed at learners who do not have any experience in the Motor Industry or those who only have basic knowledge and skills.

This apprenticeship covers the repair and maintenance of all types of vehicles, from vans to hatchbacks. There are more than 30 million vehicles on the UK’s road, which means the motor vehicle trade is growing and more trained mechanics are needed to keep them roadworthy. By completion of this apprenticeship you will have covered topics such as health and safety, routine maintenance checks and repairs, removing and replacing engine, chassis, driveline units and electrical components. You’ll even learn other essential workplace skills such as using and sourcing materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices.

Course content

This Apprenticeship Framework consists of the following components:

NVQ Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Competence
Technical Certificate Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles
*Functional Skills Level 1 in Mathematics, Level 1 in English and Level 1 in ICT

*To help us ensure that all students reach their full potential and are equipped to develop their skills further within the industry, all learners who have not already achieved a Level 2 in English and Mathematics will have extra tuition to help them achieve a Level 2 in these subjects. Functional Skills are only applicable to learners who have not already achieved GCSE grade A-E in English, Maths and ICT (or equivalent)

 

To achieve the NVQ element of this course, you will be required to complete a series of units which are then assessed in conjunction with observations in the workplace, to ensure you are able to demonstrate practical skills and knowledge.  We also offer learners the opportunity to, once a week, participate in a skills class where you can extend your learning of knowledge and skills.

To achieve the Technical Certificate and Functional Skill components, you will be required to undergo a series of formal tests. All knowledge to achieve these components will be gained alongside the NVQ. Testing will commence at College and you may be required to attend Functional Skill session at College.
