BTEC Applied Science Level 3 Diploma at University of Chester CE Academy

Course description

This is a two year course building on the Science you will have studied in Years 10 and 11. The course is designed to provide a highly specialised work-related qualification. The course aims to give learners the opportunity to acquire technical and employability skills, knowledge and understanding and develop practical lab skills.

Course content

In the first year you will study the compulsory units of the course. These will include units on working in the Science Industry, Investigating Science, Practical Techniques, Perceptions of Science and will also cover the Maths skills you will need to complete the course. In the second year, you will specialise in Forensic Science.

The Forensic Science course will allow you to acquire the skills needed to work in the exciting field of forensics, working in a lab analysing chemicals or working on crime scenes. In order to achieve this you will study units on collecting and analysing forensic evidence, lab techniques and criminology as well as looking at traffic accident investigation and forensic fire investigation.

Entry requirements

Dual Award Science at grade B or above at higher or foundation tier, or Additional Applied at Grade B or above.

Future opportunities

Access to University, working in a lab as a technician testing materials or developing drugs, chemical analysis in forensics and working in a hospital as a medical physics technician.
