Information and Creative Technology (I&CT) BTEC Extended Certificate Level 2 at The Manchester College

Course description

At the cutting edge of new developments, just like the digital industry itself, this Information and Creative Technology course is a fantastic introduction to the entire sector. If you want to learn both coding and creative skills in real-life scenarios, from hardware programming to graphic design, this is the course for you. You’ll start with a look at The Online World, and learn how today’s technology systems interact with us on a day-to-day basis. Then, you’ll begin to develop your skills creating computer graphics and animation, working with tools, software and coding techniques used in the creative and digital industries, like Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML 5 and CSS 3. Looking at how games and different types of multimedia are developed, and how operating systems work across different platforms, you’ll be building your own portfolio of skills and work across a wide selection of technologies, setting the path for an exciting future career in the industry.

Entry requirements

You’ll need to have 5 or more GCSEs to enrol on this course, including both Maths and English Language. Theses should all be at grade D or above, with at least one at grade C.

Assessment

Each unit on this course will be assessed in a different way, with tasks that could include role plays, project work, written coursework or presentations. For two of them, you’ll need to sit some online exams.

Future opportunities

There are a number of different Level 3 courses you could continue onto after completing this course at The Manchester College. You could stay with a wide, all-encompassing study of Digital Technologies, or you could focus on Computer Science Solutions or Mobile Application Development.     • North Manchester Sixth Form is a friendly, vibrant sixth form centre offering courses for school leavers. There are a wide range of courses to choose from, including acting, medical sciences, childcare, business, film production and forensics. The comfortable, environmentally friendly site is made up of a bright modern building and the restored Harpurhey Baths. There is plenty of space to socialise and a large garden. Many of the facilities at North Manchester Sixth Form are open to the community.

      Harpurhey Baths is a Grade II listed building and part of North Manchester Sixth Form. The college has transformed the building into an award-winning exhibition space for students and the community.

      Facilities at North Manchester Sixth Form include:

      Local area

      North Manchester Sixth Form is in Harpurhey, a suburb three miles north of central Manchester. There are a large market, supermarket, shops, fast food chains and a post office nearby. North Manchester Sixth Form is close to Queens Park and Boggart Hole Clough, large community parks hosting events throughout the year. Queens Park has a children’s playground. North City Family and Fitness Centre is five minutes’ walk away and has a health suite and swimming pool.
