Advanced Subsidiary (Year 12):

GO61 Information Systems and Applications:

The aim of this unit is to provide you with an understanding of the core aspects of ICT systems.  You will have the opportunity in this unit to acquire and apply skills, knowledge and understanding of the way standard software applications e.g. Microsoft Office are used in different contexts.  30% of A Level 60% of AS Level.


GO62 Structured Practical ICT Tasks:

The coursework in Year 12 consists of tasks set by the Exam Board.  You are required to find a solution to a given problem and to demonstrate competence in the skills of design, testing, implementation and documentation, 20% of A Level, 40% of AS Level.



Advanced (Year 13):

GO63 ICT Systems, Application and Implications:

This unit considered communication between computers and interaction between humans and computers and the converging technologies of IT and data communications in the form of the internet.  This unit involves studying management of change, advanced database systems and project management.  30% of A Level.


GO64 ICT Project:

You are asked to produce and document an ICT solution to a real life problem that involves the specification, analysis, design, implementation, testing and evaluation of the system.  This is carried out using applications software e.g. Microsoft Office software or programming software.  20% of A Level.

Entry requirements


You should have achieved one of the higher grades in your OCR Nationals qualification for this course but the most important factor is that you have a lively and enquiring mind and an interest and enthusiasm for ICT.



The coursework represents 40% of the final mark and the exams represent 60% of the final mark at both AS and A2 Level.
