Light Vehicle Maintenance IMI Diploma Level 1 at Waltham Forest College

Course description

This qualification is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career as a Motor Vehicle Technician, or anyone who is looking to expand their knowledge of service and repairs within the Automotive industry.

This IMI Level 1 course is the first step to advancing you from beginner to qualified mechanic. You can then decide whether you would like to take your skills into a dealership or a high octane Formula One environment.

Course content

Health and safety / tool identification
Diesel and petrol engines
Electrical systems
Engine cooling and lubrication systems
Suspension and chassis

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at Grade G or above including English and Maths
Interview and assessment

Assessment

Practical assessments in a motor vehicle workshop environment
Much of the coursework is completed in college time: 4 to 6 hours per week outside of college time should be sufficient to complete all other coursework.

Future opportunities

Progression to a Level 2 Motor Vehicle Diploma or an Apprenticeship.
