Horse Care (Work-based) Level 1 at Abingdon and Witney College
This Level 1 Work-Based Diploma is a one year full time course. It is the first step towards developing the knowledge and skills required to work in the equine industry.
All aspects of horse care are covered throughout the year with a mixture of practical and theoretical lectures which are delivered by a variety of specialist equine staff working at the College. During this course you will learn how to maintain health and safety in the workplace, groom and wash horses, feeding and watering horses, stable duties and horse handling. You will also learn how to fit and maintain horse tack and clothing, clean tack and horse clothing, learn how to put on and take off tack and rugs and offer an introduction to riding horses on the flat.
Students should be at least 16 years old on entry and have a minimum of: Two GCSEs grade E or above or Entry Level 3 Functional Skills, along with having motivation and commitment to learning about horses. All applicants will be invited to attend an interview and an assessment day. Eligibility for this course will depend on your school report and the ability to be successful on the course.
The fees shown below are those charged in 2015/16 and may be subject to increase for 2016/17. For some courses clothing, equipment and registration fees may apply and will be payable to external companies. Only trips necessary to the successful completion of your course (compulsory trips) will be listed below, other trips and visits may be offered as part of your programme of study, these will be optional and fees will be collected throughout the duration of the course.
Successful students may progress onto a Level 2 qualification in Horse Care. Some students may choose to enter directly into employment where they can continue to train towards Work-Based Qualifications in Horse Care or other similar qualifications
