History A Level at Waingels College

Course description

Students will explore communist states in the 20th century, focusing on Russia from Lenin to Yeltsin and China under the leadership of Chairman Mao. The course will examine the key political, economic and social features of these countries. In Year 13, students develop their understanding of British history, focussing on major conflicts Britain have been involved in, from the Napoleonic Wars to the First World War. Students will also undertake a non exam assessment unit on the Holocaust, developing key skills of analysis and evaluation.

Entry requirements

Standard entry requirements, plus a Grade 5 in English Language/Literature & a B grade in History.


Three Exams (80%) Non-Exam Assessment (20%)

Future opportunities

The study of History opens up a wide range of careers needing general academic qualifications as well as those requiring specific historical knowledge. A Level History provides students with invaluable skills for university and the workplace.
