Course content

“The ability to be creative” The A2 course allows you to extend and develop your skills and will set challenges for you to achieve.  The coursework element starts straight away in the summer term after the AS exams are over, with the aim being to complete the first section by the end of term.  This allows for more time in Year 13 for more complex and demanding practical tasks.

Assessment

The course is split into two with equal weighting on both units:
Unit 3: Design and Manufacture (50% of A2).  A two hour examination will take place in June of Year 13 which will consist of answering three essay questions out of six.  Diagrams and illustrations should be included in your answers.

Unit 4: Design and Making Practice (50% of A2).  Your coursework will be undertaken throughout Year 13 and you will submit this before the Easter holiday. This is internally assessed and externally moderated consisting of both a practical component and written portfolio.
