Health and Social Care Applied A-Level at St Mark's West Essex Catholic School

Course description

The advanced GCE and Health & Social Care course has been designed to form a qualification which provides knowledge and understanding of this vocational area for those interested in the caring professions. The course offers vocational enhancement to subjects such as Sociology, Psychology and Biology; providing a broad understanding of the health care, social care and early years service providers. You will apply your knowledge in realistic and practical ways, including local case studies, small research projects, and your own health promotion campaign. Applied Health & Social Care combines very well with almost all AS and A2 level subjects. Taken with a science, it supports applications for nursing, midwifery and other health and therapy courses. Taken with humanities or science subjects it is possible to enter into teaching or social science degree courses. Students who have previously studied this course have gone on study a range of other courses including: Occupational Therapy, Nursing or Deaf Studies, Education (Primary Teaching), Training for Dispensing Optician or for Dental Nursing, Sociology and Social Policy.

Some students may choose to use their qualification to go straight into employment, for example into dental and optical work or in doctors’ surgeries and hospitals. The course will help you to develop transferable skills that employers value in today’s increasingly competitive job market.
