English Literature (A2 Level) at Abbot Beyne High School - a Specialist Visual Arts College

Course description

A2 *Unit 3 – Reading for Meaning 60% of A2 Level, 30% of total A level Texts – Students will study: At least 3 texts from a variety of genres and periods. These will be based on the theme of Love Through the Ages. Assessment – Students will sit a 2½ hour exam in which they will answer 2 questions on unseen texts. They will draw on the wider reading they have completed as part of the unit. *Unit 4 – Extended essay and Shakespeare study. 40% of A2 level, 20% of total A level Texts – Students will study: 3 texts, one of which will be a Shakespeare play, which are linked by theme. Assessment – Students will complete: • 1 piece of comparative coursework – 3000 words

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs grade A-C, including English and Maths. At least a B grade required at GCSE.

No cost to full-time students.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in English studies or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to English Literature such as a Teacher, Journalist, Author or Poet. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
