L3 BTEC- Applied Science at Bradford Academy

Course description

This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to work in the applied science industry.

You will gain an understanding of the basic principles of science, learning how to undertake a scientific investigation and developing the skills necessary to work in a science laboratory. You will develop a detailed knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body’s main organ systems and learn how microorganisms can be used to the benefit of society.

You will learn about health and safety issues, and gain knowledge needed to work in the science industry.

 

Course content

You will study 12 units, which cover a variety of science topics.

Examples of the topics covered include:

  • Fundamentals of Science
  • Working in the Science Industry
  • Scientific Practical Techniques
  • Using Science in the Workplace
  • Physiology of Human Body Systems
  • Biomedical Science Techniques

Entry requirements

5 GCSE A*-C including Maths, Science and English.

Assessment

This course is assessed through 100% coursework.

 

Future opportunities

You can progress onto further and higher education such as nursing and biomedical degrees at university.

Further careers could include nursing, midwifery, forensic science, health care, food technology, analytical science, environmental science and many more.
