Course title

BTEC FIRST LEVEL 2 IN CHILDREN’S PLAY, LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Course content

This course covers units which are essential to working with Children. It gives students a greater awareness of current issues and prepares them for Level 3 study. This course requires 180 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).

Students will complete 2 core units and two mandatory units worth 120 GLH.

  • Core Unit One - Patterns of Child Development (30 GLH)
  • Core Unit Two - Promoting Children’s Development through Play (30 GLH)
  • Mandatory Unit One – Principles of Early Years Practice
  • Mandatory Unit Two – Promoting Positive Behaviours

Student will then choose a further 4 optional units to complete the 120 GLH.

Assessment

Core Unit One and Mandatory Unit 4 are assessed externally (written exam). All other units are portfolio based and assessed internally.

 

Students can achieve a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* according to the number of points they achieve.

Career opportunities

The course can provide a progression route to Level 3 BTEC Nationals in Children’s Play Learning and Development and provides a broad educational basis for employment within the childcare sector.
