Carpentry & Joinery Level 1 Diploma at City College Brighton and Hove
The UK construction industry is constantly changing and developing the way it meets the challenges of creating the built environment – and that’s where it needs you!
This course will develop your basic skills and knowledge to start a career in the Construction industry as a carpenter/joiner.
You will learn about different aspects of site carpentry including: using hand tools, power tools, access equipment, building workplace relationships and Health and Safety requirements
On this course you will:
- Know how to carry out safe working practices
- Knowledge of information, quantities and communicating with others
- Knowledge of building methods and construction technology
- Knowledge of basic woodworking joints
- Know how to maintain and use hand tools
- Know how to prepare and use portable power tools
This course also offers the opportunity for you to develop your English, maths and/or ICT skills, as appropriate. You will be expected to complete basic skills qualifications as part of your course.
5 GCSEs at grade F or equivalent, to include GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics.
Assessment is based on assignments completed through the year including core skills and an on line knowledge test.
All full time courses are free to EU residents who are under 19 years old on the 31st August 2016. The only fees you have to pay are for specialist resources and equipment and the cost of these varies from £25 to £300 depending upon the subject you are studying.
Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for financial help from the college's learner support funds. You should apply for financial support as soon as you receive your offer letter.
After successfully completing this course, you will be able to progress onto the Level 2 in Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery.
