Uniformed Public Services Diploma - Level 1 at Dudley College

Course description

To develop the skills and experience that would be necessary for working and be successful for a career in the public services or the public sector.

Course content

You will complete 7 modules on a full-time basis, 5 of these are mandatory. There are also 2 optional units.  This qualification consists of 5 mandatory units:

·  Investigate employment opportunities in the uniformed services

· Well-being and physical fitness for the uniformed services

· Team working skills in the uniformed services

· Developing self-discipline for the uniformed services

· Health and safety in the uniformed services

and 4 optional units:

· Carry out map reading and navigation

· Participate in competitive sports

· Participate in an adventurous activity

· Explore volunteering and volunteering opportunities

Entry requirements

You should have Entry Level 3 or GCSEs grades F – G, possess a positive school report and attend an interview with the course tutor.

Assessment

Through a portfolio, reports, practical assessment, photographs, witness statements discussions and posters.

Functional skills in English, maths, personal and social development.

Financial information

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Bursary fund

 

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

 

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

 

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.

 

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.

 

***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.

Future opportunities

Employment within the public services sector. The qualification also assists in employment to any environment.

Progression to the Level 2 Diploma in Public Services is dependent on successful completion of the Level 1 course and the relevant functional skills. Attendance, behaviour and attitude are also taken into consideration at this time.
