Information Communications Technology at St Edward's College

Course description

Regardless of your higher education or career aspirations you cannot escape the fact that Information Technology will play an integral role in your life. Whether it is through communication, research or simply leisure, the impact that Information Technology has is immense and is set only to increase further.

Course content

The ICT course involves a number of different, interesting and informative elements. Pupils will look into the impact of ICT on society and how society actually uses ICT. In addition, they will use ICT to analyse data and create professional business documents, presentations and websites. It is an in-depth course that requires candidates to be committed to the syllabus and the attention to detail it requires.

Pupils will expand skills they already possess in areas of Publishing, Databases and Spreadsheets and will gain knowledge and expertise in new areas of creating industry-standard documents, websites and ICT systems and applications used in various organisations.

Entry requirements

C grade in GCSE Mathematics AND C grade in GCSE English


At AS Level, pupils will submit two pieces of internally assessed and externally moderated portfolio coursework and sit a one and a half hour, traditional examination.

At A2 Level, pupils submit two pieces of internally assessed and externally moderated portfolio coursework in addition to producing one piece of coursework, the constraints of which are set by the examination board.
The examination unit counts as one-third of the overall mark at AS Level and one-sixth of the overall A Level.

Future opportunities

Pupils who study this subject will be eligible to apply for most ICT-related university courses but, in addition, it is a qualification that is recognised by most course providers in the areas of business and finance. The vast majority of employers now require that prospective employees possess a competent level of IT skill.
