Course description

What will I be studying?

You will develop an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles of physics and appreciate how the subject links to other sciences and underpins important technologies.

What does this subject involve?

The physics units included in the AS course cover these topics:

Particles, radiation, quantum 'tiny physics' effects and current electricity

Mechanics, properties of materials, and waves.

Practical skills

The A2 units consist of:

Oscillations, fields, magnetism and capacitors and further mechanics.

Thermal physics, nuclear physics and an optional topic selected from astrophysics, medical physics or turning points in physics.

Entry requirements

Everyone studies physics as part of GCSE science.

Future opportunities

Physics students are always much in demand because of their adaptability and problem-solving skills. The options are infinite but include:

communications, engineering, health and medicine, veterinary science, industry or commerce, research, architecture.
