Engineering Manufacture Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at City College Plymouth

Course description

Do you dream of a career making and building things? How about a career making things work and running complex systems as efficiently as possible? Engineering Manufacture incorporates both of these responsibilies, builing things and making them work. No matter what field of manufacturing you want to go into, this Apprenticeship will teach you the skills you need to succeed. Every industry of manufacture needs often complex machinery to keep it going, so your skills will be in demand wherever you go. On this Apprenticeship, you will learn the skills you need to meet the demands of any company, helping create and maintain the systems and machinery used to ensure production runs smoothly. As an Apprentice, you'll be earning while you learn. You'll be required to attend the College on a weekly basis in conjunction with working at a local company, learning the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in the industry, as well as gaining recognised qualifications to give you the edge in a competitive industry. 

Course content

The Advanced Apprenticeship Framework will include:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations, Level 3 in Engineering Production
  • Functional Skills for maths, English and ICT level 2 - completed at College
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) - completed at work alongside the NVQ3
  • Employement Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) - completed at work and at College.

There is a choice of three occupational routes, which are fabrication, machining or welding.

Entry requirements

Entry is by an initial assessment at the Work-based Learning Department. 


Assessment is continuous, both on and off the job.

Future opportunities

Successful completion will greatly enhance job opportunities in the Engineering sector. You could also progress onto a range of Engineering courses at the College should you wish to further your studies.
