Applied Travel and Tourism A Level at Sponne School

Course description

Travel and Tourism is the largest industry in the world and many UK universities now reflect this in their range of tourism related courses. In recent years, a number of students have successfully gone to university to study Travel and Tourism, as well others who have attained apprenticeships places within the industry.

Assessment

The assessment for Advanced GCE Awards is continuous and will either be by external or portfolio assessment. Advanced GCE is an award that particularly suits students who enjoy work researching and developing independent learning styles within a vocational setting. This can be achieved through a variety of approaches including links with local employers, case studies and research.

There will be several opportunities for students to participate in ‘out of school’ experiences including visits to Whittlebury Hall and other local businesses.

In the A2 section of the course, there are opportunities for the students to gain and develop important skills for the future. Students have to organise a guided tour and deliver it, this unit is followed by the Event Management unit, which brings all the skills together. In the Event Management unit, the students have to organise a tourist experience of their own choosing, in previous years students have organised trips to and visited Barcelona, Milan and Rome.
