Hairdressing Level 1 at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai

Course description

Are you hoping to start a career in hairdressing? Would you like to gain a range of professional skills in this sector?

This programme gives you an introduction into the knowledge and skills needed for a traditional Junior role, enabling you to assist a stylist in the daily running of a salon or similar workplace. It can also act as a stepping stone to your Level 2 studies.

The programme covers shampooing, drying, health and safety, reception work and other essential topics.

You also have the option of studying some modules in Beauty Therapy as part of the programme.

Course content

The programme will be delivered through a blend of the following:

  • Practical Delivery
  • Theory Sessions
  • Commercial Salon Training

You will also undertake work experience as part of the programme.

You will study a variety of subject-specific modules, in addition to Literacy and Numeracy skills.

You will also study additional relevant qualifications, which may include the Welsh Baccalaureate. These will be explained to you at interview, or contact Learner Services for more information.

Entry requirements

  • 2 x Grade D at GCSE or equivalent

All places are subject to satisfactory interview.


The programme is assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Observation
  • Practical assessments
  • Written and Oral Tests
