Health and Social Care BTEC Level 1 and 2 Certificate at Brockenhurst College

Course description

This course provides opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the health and social care sector, including factors that affect individuals' lifestyle choices and their health; and the effective communication skills that can be transferred to other sectors. 

It introduces opportunity to understand some of the skills identified by employers as the fundamental building blocks for future competence in the workplace.


Course content

The Edexcel BTEC Level 1 and 2 First Certificate in Health and Social Care comprises 

  • 2 core units,
  • 2 additional mandatory units and
  • optional specialist units

    Core Units – Human lifespan development, health and social care values.

    Mandatory Units – Effective communication in health and social care; healthy living.

    Optional Units may include – Equality and Diversity in Health and Social Care, creative and therapeutic activities in health and social care.

Entry requirements

4 GCSE passes at Grade D, to include English Language or equivalent Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy. 

This Course can be studied alongside Maths, English and Science GCSE resits.


Assignments are internally and externally assessed.

Future opportunities

Progression opportunities can include pathway into an Apprenticeship. On the achievement of Distinction plus GCSE Maths and English at C or equivalent can progress to Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care
