Maths A Level at Vision West Nottinghamshire College

Course description

Maths plays a significant role in careers in medicine, engineering, economics and the social sciences. Our everyday lives encounter mathematical questions and problems, from calculating how much a 15% discount is to working out the probability of the train being late; you cannot get away from maths.

There are four core modules which will cover pure mathematics. You will also study statistics with data analysis. Mechanics, which investigates the mathematics of Newton’s laws of motion, will be studied in the second year.

You will be taught how to use the maths software package Autograph for your coursework assignment. A high percentage of our students gain high grades on their coursework using this programme.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs with at least 4 points (grade C) including maths with 6 points (grade B).

You will need to attend an interview with the tutor before being accepted on to the course.

This course is assessed primarily by examination scheduled for May/June with some additional coursework assessment.

Future opportunities

The Mathematics A Level can lead to work as a climatologist, statistician, analyst, financial advisor, or games programmer.
