Animal care apprenticeship Level 3 at Isle of Wight College

Course description

This course is for anyone working within Animal Care. The course includes both theory and practical skills which are put into practice in the workplace. The Advanced Apprenticeship requires more academic work than the Intermediate to be which will require a higher level of competency and experience.

Course content

The Advanced Apprenticeship Framework in Animal Care will give you the skills and knowledge that you will need to build a career within the Animal Care industry.

The Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework includes the following:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Animal Care
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in Numeracy and Literacy
  • ERR (Employment Rights and Responsibilities)
  • PLTS (Personal Learning and Thinking Skills)

Entry requirements

C and above in GCSE Maths and English or equivalent or ability to gain Level 2 Functional Skills.


You will attend The Isle of Wight College periodically for your underpinning knowledge and Functional Skills classes, if required. You will also be reviewed every 4-6 weeks in the workplace by a member of our team.

Future opportunities

Once you complete this qualification you may be able to move into full time employment.

Many employers will tend to keep their Apprentices on after they complete their Apprenticeship but permanent employment is not guaranteed after learners complete their apprenticeship.
