A Level Mathematics at Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School

Course description

Students will do both individual and group work. there is no coursework but regular homework assignments and half-termly tests will be set. the use of advanced graphical programmable calculators and computing facilities will be encouraged.

AS Core Pure Mathematics: C1 and C2 plus Statistics S1

C1: Algebra and functions; quadratic functions; equations and inequalities; sketching curves; coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane; sequences and series; differentiation; integration.

C2: Algebra and functions; the sine and cosine rule; exponentials and logarithms; coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane; the binomial expansion; radian measure and its applications; geometric sequences and series; graphs of trigonometric fuctions; differentiation; trigonometrical identities and equations; integration.

S1: Mathematical models in probability and statistics; representation and summary of data: location and measures of dispersion; probability; correlation; regression; discrete random variables; the normal distribution.

A2 Core Pure Mathematics: C3 and C4 plus Mechanics: M1

C3: Algebraic fractions; functions; the exponential and log functions; transforming graphs of functions; trigonometry; further trigonometric identities and their applications; differentiation.

C4: Partial fractions; coordinate geometry in the (x,y plane; the binomial expansion; differentiation; vectors; integration.

M1: Mathematical models in mechanics; kinematics of a particle moving in a straight line; dynamics of a particle moving in a straight line; statics of a particle; moments; vectors.
