Performing Arts Level 3 at The King Edmund School

Course description

The Performing Arts industry is an exciting and expressive environment to be part of. It values a creative mind and educates emotional intelligence. Performing Arts encourages you to think outside the box and consider different perspectives, giving it the power to liberate the mind.The course encompasses a variety of performance disciplines and will give you opportunities to develop your skills through the devising of your own work and the staging of professional works. In addition to the focus on performance skills, case studies into the work of professional practitioners will also develop your understanding and appreciation of the significance of social, cultural and historical influences on the development of performance.

Course content

The BTEC course consists of both theoretical and practical elements, the majority of
which are routed in practical activity. Most lessons take on the structure of professional workshops, using practical activity and discussion to develop skills. Classroom based activities will develop your knowledge and understanding of professional practitioners. You will work with others to develop the skills needed to research, devise, rehearse and stage your own performance for a specific audience. Your performance skills will be further developed through the performance of professional works.

Assessment

A variety of methods including portfolio, performance and extended writing will be used to assess your performance skills and your understanding of how professional practitioners use both performance and production elements to have impact on their audience. All work is assessed by internal moderation.

Future opportunities

BTEC Performing Arts combined with other A Level subjects will give you the freedom to continue with a wide range od studies or find employment in a variety of professions. If you have a particular passion for the performing arts, it will lay the foundations for further study (university) and careers in a whole host of industries including theatre, television, events.
