Biology at The Warriner School

Course description

This course aims to nurture and support a student’s passion for the study of biology. A broad and balanced range of content is covered, with an accompanying strong emphasis on practical skills ideally preparing learners for further study or employment.

The OCR syllabus has 4 main aims for students:

  • Develop an interest in and enthusiasm for biology, including developing an interest in further study and careers in biology
  • Appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society
  • Develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of How Science Works
  • Develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of biology and how they relate to each other.

    The AS level course features 2 examined modules and a practical assessment which, when combined, make up half of the full A-Level qualification. The A2 level course features 2 further examined modules and a further practical assessment which, when combined, make up the remaining half of the full A-Level qualification.

  • Entry requirements

    Students enrolling on this course need to have at least a grade B in both Core and Additional Science or a grade B in GCSE Biology. For those students who did not study separate sciences at GCSE, individual module results may be taken into consideration.
