Intermediate Apprenticeship

Within the Intermediate Apprenticeship, you will gain a Level 2 Diploma in one of the following:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (VRQ)
  • Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (VCQ)
  • Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Parts (VCQ)

Other areas of the qualification include:

  • Functional Skills Maths Level 1
  • Functional Skills English Level 1
  • Functional Skills ICT Level 1
  • Employer Rights & Responsibilities

Length of the course - 24 Months Approximately

During the Apprenticeship you will cover areas such as:

Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

  • Servicing, repairing and replacing faulty parts and maintaining records.
  • Equality and Diversity
  • On and off the job guided learning
  • Auto Electrical and Mobile Electrical Installation
  • Light Vehicle and Heavy Vehicle
  • Motorcycle

Motor Vehicle Technicians work on all vehicle mechanics and electrics, from engines and exhaust systems to air-conditioning and security. Good motor vehicle technicians need to have strong practical skills. You’ll need to be good at problem solving and finding faults. You’ll also need to be good with people and have great customer service skills.

Motor Vehicle Parts

  • Promoting, selling and delivering automotive parts to motor trade

You will develop a good understanding of vehicle mechanics, and the ability to solve problems and work well as part of a team.

Who is it for?

Love cars and fixing things? Motor Vehicle could be perfect for you! Or you may be interested in cars, motorbikes and are good at IT in which case a career as a Parts Consultant could be an option for you.

Motor vehicle technicians repair and service a wide range of vehicles depending on what the garage specialise in, this can include cars, vans, motorbikes, lorries and coaches.

Motor vehicle parts persons, or service advisers, work with individuals, garages and dealerships to order motor vehicle parts, offering advice on spares and making deliveries.

  • Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (VCQ)
  • Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Parts (VCQ)

Entry requirements

To start an Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle at either Level 2 or 3, you need to have a job or a placement in the industry as it is a work-based qualification.

You will also need GCSEs in English and Maths for the Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications.

Financial information

Aged 16-18
Fully funded

Aged 19-23
Fully funded for employers with less than 1000 employees. For employers with 1000+ employees, please contact us for further details.

Aged 24 and over
Total People require employers to make a contribution towards the cost for all learners aged 24 years and over, embarking on an Apprenticeship.

Future opportunities

After completing your Apprenticeship in any of the Motor Vehicle qualifications, you will be able to progress onto further qualifications or promote to higher positions including supervisor and managerial.
