BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma: Sport and Physical Activity at Hind Leys College (Iveshead School)

Course description

The Subsidiary Diploma in Sport is an A-Level equivalent course, with emphasis on the practical component. Confidence, communication skills and organising ability are developed and you are given the opportunity to improve your involvement in sport and fitness level.

Course content

  Throughout this course students will study units based around the sport and leisure industry.  All units will be delivered through a mixture of theory and practical lessons relating to 1. Body Systems and the Effects of Physical Activity 2. Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership   3. Sports Organisation and Development 4. Nutrition for Diet and Exercise 5. Physical Activity for Specific Groups  6. Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation. 

Entry requirements

Minimum of grade 4 in English and grade 5 in Maths and 3 other A*-C GCSEs. Minimum of grade C in BTEC Sport level 2 (desirable).


A combination of coursework and written examinations.

Future opportunities

 This course is suitable for students who wish to pursue careers in sports development, coaching, fitness instruction, personal training, teaching and many others.

    • Hind Leys College shares campus with Shepshed High School, St Botolphs C of E Primary School, Hind Leys Pre-School, The Oak Treehouse Nursery and Shepshed Toy Library.

      Shepshed Campus is only a short distance off Leicester Road from the A512, off Junction 23 of the M1.  The nearest train station is Loughborough.

      Bus links include Arriva bus nos. 126 and 127,  Paul Winson nos. 4 and 129, connecting Shepshed to Leicester, Loughborough, Coalville and Ashby de la Zouch.  

      Students attending Hind Leys College from the catchment areas and neighbouring villages are bussed to college through the Leicestershire County Council school transport provision.
