Applied Science BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Level 3 at Holgate Academy

Course description

This qualification will appeal to learners who prefer portfolio-based assessment covering a variety of scientific investigations, and are ideally interested in Forensic  Science.

Forensic scientists are often involved in the search for and examination of physical evidence  in order to solve criminal cases. 

Course content

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma offers greater flexibility and a choice of emphasis through the optional units. It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A Level.

Optional units are subject to change.

Mandatory units include:

  • Fundamentals of Science
  • Working in the Science Industry
  • Scientific Practical Techniques.

Entry requirements

A*-C grade GCSEs or have completed a BTEC Level 2 First or local equivalent.

Preferably Merit Grade at the Level 2 BTEC Applied course or minimum C grade in Additional level or Triple level Science.

Further information

There may be opportunities for visits to interesting and relevant places and exhibitions which bring classroom learning to life. This could include Nottingham Galleries of Justice, a talk from a Forensic  Investigator, a visit to a prison or court, and a chance to take part in the investigation of a simulated crime scene.
