Physics A level at Hylands School

Course description

A flexible approach where the specification is divided into topics, each covering different key concepts of physics. As students progress through the course, they build on their knowledge of the laws of physics, applying their understanding to areas from sub atomic particles to the entire universe.

Course content

Module 1: Development of Practical Skills in Physics

Module 2: Foundation of Physics

Module 3: Forces and Motion

Module 4: Electrons, Waves and Photons

Module 5: Newtonian World and Astrophysics

Module 6: Particles and Medical Physics

Entry requirements

  • GCSE Mathematics grade B or higher
  • GCSE subject specific grade required: GCSE Science minimum grades A, B
  • Pre-summer work required to be completed by students: Yes
  • Students who achieve lower than GCSE subject specific grade may be accepted at the teachers’ discretion.

Future opportunities

An A level qualification could lead to a career in; engineering, medicine, research, electronics, accountancy, communications, astronomy, or meteorology.
